INTERMAT

INTERMAT is a premium construction industry international summit occurring every three years at Paris Nord Villepinte in France. Each edition welcomes at least 173,300 professional visitors and 1,400 exhibitors, bringing to the podium the latest products from all aspects of equipment, materials and solutions for civil engineering and structural buildings works.

INTERMAT is organised in parallel with the World of Concrete Europe exhibition, which brings 200 exhibitors to the event duo. The space allocated to the international exhibition for construction and infrastructure at INTERMAT will house products from the whole concrete sector, including manufacturing and application. The setting of the WOCE expo next to INTERMAT attests to the interconnectedness of the construction and concrete industries and the importance of promoting business synergies between the two.

The main sectors at INTERMAT have evolved over time in response to changing visitors demands. One of the recently added areas to the show floor is New Technologies. The other four main sectors have remained the same over the years except for the Earthmoving, demolition & Transport category, which did not include transport under the traditional event concept. The more-or-less permanent show floor sectors are Roads, Minerals & Foundations, Lifting & Handling and Buildings & Concrete Sector.

The prestigious INTERMAT Innovations Award competition and ceremony celebrate the achievement of advancing equipment, techniques, services and products exhibited in all sectors part of INTERMAT’s current edition.

The focus of the INTERMAT summits is to gather the best and most innovative manufacturers and suppliers of plant, equipment, solutions and techniques working in all aspects of the construction industry. The visitors’ profile at INTERMAT maintains high quality and status throughout all event editions. At least two out of three visitors occupy positions with significant decision-making and purchasing power and half of all visitors work for construction contractors. INETRMAT in Paris is an excellent opportunity for visitors to connect with international stakeholders, because it attracts over 70% of international exhibitors. Besides major manufacturers and suppliers, the expo provides excellent market prospects for the businesses in the rental and distribution channels, as they are becoming more prominent following the digital trend.

INTERMAT is hosted in parallel with the construction sector exhibit and forum WOCE. The platform is a popular stage for well-known speakers and specialists from all construction branches, including public works and masonry. Members of construction federations and major industry contractors also present at the WOCE Forum.

Startups and innovative novices developing construction tech projects are also well represented at the Startup village. The audience features affluent investors and exhibitors looking to venture out and transform the industry creating unmatched collaboration prospects for authentic startups.

The entire construction industry endured setbacks during the Covid-19 pandemic, despite the divergent responses to construction activities in the nation countries undertook. The sector halted in countries like Italy, Spain and France, while the Netherlands and Germany took measures to keep the construction projects in motion. Across the board, all links of the concrete supply chain were disrupted due to changes in the manufacturing and application aspects of construction. From 2019 onward, INTERMAT industry summits became imperative for the health and resilience of the construction and concrete sector – an industry that is foundational for almost all other business fields. INTERMAT is tasked with the responsibility to restart the building industry in Europe, adapt and reshape the future trends in response to increasing institutional pressure for sustainable construction practices. Another factor members of the industry are grappling with is adjusting all parts of the value chain following digitisation and automation trends.

Parallel to the calls for adopting more sustainable materials in all building processes is the urge to ensure more robust safety practices for the workers. The entire 30,000 sq m of outdoor area at INTERMAT is dedicated to real-life demonstrations and showcases of the worksite machinery at work. These include excavators, compact excavators, loaders, graders, screeners, crushers, machines and equipment for demolition and many more.
